Not just watching, but participating: »Get involved!« is the name of the offer of participative projects before, during and after the festival week. You can get practically involved, experience and understand film.
What is »Get involved!«?
The LUCAS films are the central element: they offer new perspectives for children and young people who want to engage with the world they live in. As reporters, children and young people report on the festival’s events, discuss the contributions of the international competitions with film experts and give out prizes. The film patrons stand in front of the screen and introduce the film to the audience with their moderation. It gets even more intense in the conversation: In exclusive small group workshops with film guests, the director’s thoughts and experiences can be explored. This and many other exciting workshops take place during the festival week, but the preparations oftentimes already start beforehand.
Children and Teenagers shape the program.
Already in August, young people at LUCAS goes Ginnheim will set up their own short film open-air event in their neighbourhood and inspire interest in LUCAS. The Klassiker.Klasse and the Young European Cinephiles will also create their program for the young festival audience. And after that? “Get involved!” doesn’t end with LUCAS. “Hallo Eschborn!” and other events shorten the wait for the next LUCAS film festival.

Reviews
Which film is great, which one is not – and above all: why? Writing reviews means expressing one’s own opinion in a stylistically confident and convincing way, and that’s exactly what the LUCAS Reviews are all about. At the festival, the students will first watch several competing films and then, in workshops with film pedagogue Julia Pirzer, get to the bottom of their content and aesthetic design.

For all age groups LUCAS film patrons – one class, one film!
Raise the curtain for the film patrons! The film patron classes present a film from the competition program to the cinema audience. A few weeks before the competition starts, preparation begins at school: What does the film do with us? What questions do we have for the director, producer or actress? Can we realize a key scene by ourselves? How do we advertise our presentation? In brief, the young film fans become experts for “their film” and acquire the medium under professional guidance.
For all age groups LUCAS Conversations: Workshops with film creators
After the film screening, groups can ask our film guests questions in an intensive discussion. Why this camera perspective, why this music? In the undisturbed atmosphere of a workshop room and with a film pedagogue as support, the conversation is the ideal format for all thoughts and ideas that the film has awakened, or to get rid of questions that you have always wanted to ask a director, actor or author.
Duration: ca. 60 min. The program applies to all competition films of age sections 8+ and 13+ presented in the DFF cinema.
